Lesson 3: Introduction to the grievance process
The grievance process has a few stages and each stage has a few steps which we will learn about now.
Let’s start with stage one and step one. During this step, the aggrieved employee initiates the grievance process by completing PART 1 of GF 1 and brings it to the attention of the immediate Line Manager within five (5) days of the occurrence or incident.

The aggrieved employee reports the grievance to the immediate Line Manager or supervisor.
The aggrieved employee completes part one of the GF 1 and brings it to the attention of the immediate Line Manager or supervisor.
The aggrieved employee must lodge the grievance within five (5) working days of the incident or occurrence.
NOTE: If the grievance concerns the conduct of the immediate Line Manager, the matter should be brought to the attention of the HoD using the prescribed grievance form.

Lesson 3.2: Stage one and step two in the grievance process

The immediate Line Manager schedules and facilitates the first grievance resolution meeting.
The immediate Line Manager facilitates the first grievance meeting with the aggrieved employee and all the relevant parties attempting to resolve the issue.
The first grievance meeting should be held within three (3) working days of receipt of the GF 1.
NOTE: The Line Manager or facilitator of the grievance resolution meeting completes PART 2 of the grievance form and hands it to the aggrieved employee within two days of the meeting.
