SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY

Welcome to this short course on CPUT’s Social Media Policy. As social media plays a growing role in how we communicate and represent the university, this policy provides clear guidelines for using official CPUT channels responsibly and professionally. You'll learn how to protect CPUT’s brand, respect privacy, and align your online activity with the university’s values and goals.

This Policy applies to all staff and students who use official social media as part of their work, or in official communication related to teaching, learning, research or engagement.” (Section 2.1)

  • Represent CPUT positively and professionally

  • Post confidential or offensive content

  • Use approved branding and logos

  • Share personal or student information

  • Post accurate, respectful content

  • Use CPUT channels for personal opinions or political messages

  • Report inappropriate posts to MCD

  • Ignore inappropriate comments on official pages

  • Get written permission to use student images

  • Use platforms without MCD approval

What steps do you take?

1. Complete the Social Media Account Creation form

2. Get authorisation from your Dean or Line Manager

3. Submit to MCD for approval

4. MCD must be added as co-administrator

Respect copyright laws – get permission before sharing content

Stay professional – no personal rants, political debates, or offensive language
