POLICY FOR CONFERENCE ATTENDANCE, RESEARCH, INNOVATION, MOBILITY AND EXCHANGE PROGRAMMES
Welcome to this short course on CPUT’s Conference, Research, Mobility, and Exchange Support Policy. This policy provides clear guidance on the requirements and support available to staff, fellows, and postgraduate students participating in scholarly activities locally and internationally. It ensures fair access to funding and promotes professional development through academic engagement.
Let’s get started.
Highlights from the Policy
Approvals for travel on university business must be obtained from the line manager responsible for the account(s) to which the travel expenses will be charged.
Conferences are regular meetings of experts who contribute to the formation of scholarship, capacity building, and knowledge transfer.
Staff and students may travel to conduct research or study outside their home institution or country as part of an approved exchange program.
Journals are peer-reviewed periodicals devoted to disseminating original research and new developments in specific disciplines, sub-disciplines, or fields of study.
DHET subsidizes proceedings for conferences, congresses, symposiums, and other meetings that disseminate original research and new developments in a specific discipline.
Peer-reviewed conference proceedings disseminate original research and new developments in a specific discipline, sub-discipline, or field of study. They have an ISBN and are targeted at specialists in the relevant field.
Early-career, mid-career, established, and leading researchers will be financially supported to participate in one (1) conference per academic calendar. Postgraduate students will be considered for participation in international conferences abroad, depending on merit. The University will support the participation of one person per poster/presentation/paper at a particular conference. The author must ensure that the papers in accredited conference proceedings meet the DHET criteria.
Evidence that papers were reviewed, and not abstracts, must be submitted with the application for approval of conference participation abroad.
The Conference Committee (ConfCom) will co-fund two-thirds of conference costs, and the remaining one-third will be funded by faculties or external grants.
