The vision, and mission of your faculty or department

Vision:

  • Our vision is to empower women leaders in higher education.

  • We are committed to promoting gender equity in the South African higher education sector.

  • We are committed to promoting gender equity in the South African higher education sector.

Mission:

Our mission is to support and promote women’s development in higher education to transform tertiary institutions and achieve an equal and just society. HERS Institutes provide intensive curriculum over a number of days which prepares women faculty and administrators for institutional leadership roles. The Institutes focus on knowledge, skills and perspectives for achieving institutional priorities and maximizing institutional resources. HERS Institute participants work with HERS Faculty and HERS Alumnae to develop the professional development plans and networks needed for advancing as leaders in higher education administration.

The strategic goals of your faculty or department

Our work is underpinned by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union Agenda 2063. The United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development sets seventeen interrelated Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with gender equality at the heart of achieving these goals. Even more reason for the Higher Education Resource Service – South Africa (HERS-SA) to believe that the attainment of gender transformation of leadership in higher education can accelerate the attainment of these goals.
